The Charlotte Avenue Branch YMCA, part of the Upper Palmetto YMCAs, located in Rock Hill, South Carolina, has the world’s first Evacuator. It was installed in January 2010 and has made a tremendous impact on the facility’s indoor environment.
Prior to the Evacuator, the odor of chloramines was pungent in the front lobby across the building. The aquatics director had to move their office due to the presence of chloramines ruining their computer and other electronics. It was a real problem that the YMCA desperately needed to fix.
The chloramine problem was the result of poor air flow and heavy bather loads in the water. Since installing the Evacuator, this small YMCA enjoys excellent air quality 24/7.
“Our indoor pool was built in 1975. The air quality has always been very poor. Our Y members knew we had an indoor pool due to its smell as they entered the building – even though the entry is 40 yards from the indoor pool area! The pool staff relocated their offices away from the pool area several years ago – due to computer failure and other issues affected by the air quality from our indoor pool. Since adding the Evacuator our “pool smell” has left the building! Staff and members even feel like they now have “fresh air” in the indoor pool. Maintenance costs have also been reduced by eliminating rust and other corrosive issues in the pool area. Our YMCA says “thumbs up” for the Evacuator!”
